While it is possible to change or cancel Sandals reservations, there are rules about when you can do it and what the penalty might be. Sandals updated their cancellation policy in December 2022, so if you’ve visited Sandals resorts before, you should know that terms have changed.
In this article, we’ll tell you everything you need to know about how to cancel a Sandals reservation, whether it’s for a honeymoon or couples’ getaway. We’ll also answer popular questions like, what number do I call to cancel Sandals? and can I change the name on a Sandals reservation?
How do I cancel my Sandals reservation?
You have a couple of options when you want to cancel your Sandals reservation.
- You can email Sandals at [email protected]
- You can call the Sandals customer service number, which is 1-888-SANDALS (726-3257) / 1-305-284-1300.
- You can chat with someone at Sandals by visiting their website. After a few seconds, a chat option should appear during business hours.
- If you booked your reservation through a Sandals travel agent, they will be able to handle the cancellation for you.
Can I cancel my Sandals reservation?
Yes, you can cancel Sandals reservations, but there are restrictions. The official Sandals cancellation policy for 2023 covers all bookings made on or after December 1, 2022. Any Sandals reservations made prior to December 1, 2022 are subject to the old Sandals cancellation policy (see below).
For bookings made on or after December 1, 2022, the Sandals resorts cancellation policy is that final payment is due 60 days before the trip and it is fully refundable up until 45 days before the trip.
If you cancel within 31-45 days before the trip, there is a 50% penalty on the land portion (meaning, the room rate and not any airfare). If you cancel 30 days or less from the trip, the penalty is 100% of the land portion.
The old Sandals cancellation policy, which applies to any trips that were booked before December 1, 2022, is that payment is fully refundable up to 30 days before travel, a 50% penalty is assessed if the trip is cancelled between 15-30 days beforehand, and a 100% penalty is assessed if the trip is cancelled 14 or fewer days before arrival.
Be aware that certain luxury room categories require deposits at the time of booking that are nonrefundable, no matter when you cancel your reservation. Overwater bungalows and villas require a $2500 nonrefundable deposit, and seaside and poolside bungalows require a $1000 nonrefundable deposit. These deposits are also not allowed to be transferred to a lower category of room.
You can avoid cancellation penalties by purchasing Sandals travel insurance for about $100 per adult. This insurance allows you to change your trip for any reason and get a certificate good for another time. Also, if you cancel your trip for a covered reason, you get a 100% refund on the unused portion of your stay and any flights that are covered. Additionally, it provides trip interruption, baggage, emergency evacuation, and medical expense coverage.
How late can you cancel a Sandals reservation?
You can cancel a Sandals reservation at any time. However, you will encounter cancellation charges if you do it too close to the date of your trip. According to the Sandals cancellation policy 2023 (which applies to all trips booked on or after December 1, 2022), you can cancel up to 45 days before your trip start date and get a full refund.
If you cancel a Sandals reservation between 45 days and 31 days before your trip, you will be charged 50% of your total room rate. If you cancel a Sandals reservation 30 days or less before your trip, you will be charged the full cost of your room rate.
The official policy also states that “payment and cancellation policy may vary during holiday periods,” so be sure to doublecheck what policy applies to your reservation when you make it. On the Sandals Terms and Conditions page, they give details about deposits and refunds during specific holiday time periods in 2023, 2024, and 2025.
Also, any Loyalty & Travel bookings require a nonrefundable deposit, which varies by resort and room category, and any Loyalty & Travel reservations that qualify for the “full payment” discount are nonrefundable from the time of booking.

So, say you were planning to take a significant other to a Sandals resort, and you broke up a month before your trip. You decide to bring your best friend instead since it’s too late to cancel and get a full refund.
You can contact Sandals and ask to change the name of your guest on the reservation. However, the Sandals website states that all reservation change requests are subject to their approval, so it’s not a given that they will let you make this change.
Also, be aware that there might be costs to changing your Sandals reservation. This information applies to any Sandals reservation change, including dates and room categories as well as names. Only changes made more than 45 days before your trip are free.
Sandals reservation changes made between 45-31 days prior to a trip incur a change fee of $200 per person PLUS a penalty equal to 50% of the land portion of your booking. Sandals reservation changes made 30 or fewer days before the trip are subject to the $200 per person change fee PLUS a penalty of 100% of the room reservation total.
You can call Sandals to change a reservation at 1-888-SANDALS (726.3257). If you made your reservation through a travel agent, they can handle making the change requests for you.
