happy couple on the beach, summer vacations or honeymoon

Here are 25 things to do on your honeymoon to give you a mix of romantic, adventurous, and memorable experiences.

Take a Cooking Class Together

A cooking class for two is a great way to explore the local cuisine and experience some amazing dishes, making it perfect for honeymooners. You get the opportunity to try out new flavors and learn how to prepare new dishes. It will also give you an opportunity to explore the local cuisine of the country you are visiting.

Doing something completely new together puts you both on equal ground and you need to work as a team to create the dishes you are being shown. Making mistakes together can also be a lot of fun! When you are done, you usually get to enjoy your meal with a drink or two.

A class we did in Vietnam began in the market and our teacher showed us what to look for when buying ingredients, This was really helpful as when we got home we knew what to look for in the shops. We also had a new recipe to create for our friends when they visited us in our new house.

Take a Couples Dances Class

Why not embark on a sensual, or just fun, couples dance class on your honeymoon?

Imagine yourself gliding over the dancefloor to mesmerizing music embraced by your significant other who just said yes to spending the rest of their life with you!

dancing classes

There are numerous dance styles to choose from if you want to explore your rhythm, as well as your non-verbal communication skills. This moment when you have all the time in the world just for each other could be perfect, whether you prefer an energetic rock or a sensual salsa.

Even if you were born with two left feet, when celebrating the most personal and intimate commitment of your life, learning to dance together might just give your union an extra spark from the get-go!

Go on a Picnic

A picnic is one of life’s simple pleasures, especially if it is shared with the one you love.  After all the hectic days leading up to your wedding, you’ll definitely want to take time to relax during your honeymoon.  Why not find a quiet, beautiful spot and share a romantic picnic with your new spouse?

The great thing about a picnic is that it can be as simple or as fancy as you wish.  It’s your choice: red plastic cups or fine crystal?  Go all out and pack a basket with your favorite nibbles, strawberries, chocolates, and a bottle of champagne.  Eat, drink, laugh, and reconnect — what a lovely way to start out your new life together.  Cheers!

Enjoy Couples Massages

What better way to unwind from your big today, than a couples massage?

A massage is said to release oxytocin, the “love hormone”. So you will be creating those love hormones together and strengthening that bond from your vows, whilst easing away any stresses from flower arrangements and seating plans. Plus, by having the massage at the same time, it means you are both on the same zenned-out plain at the same time.

It is worthwhile researching the massages on offer before arriving in a country so that you are both prepared. For instance, in Vietnam, you may have someone walking on your back, and in Morocco or Turkey, all inhibitions will need to go out the window if you opt for a Hammam.

Watch the Sunrise or Sunset

Watching the sunrise or sunset together is wonderfully romantic at any time, but no more so on your honeymoon.  If you’re early risers then waking up to see the start of a new day and your new life together will be another memory to cherish, wherever you are.  Even if you just peek out of the curtains before going back to bed!

However, if you can take a trip somewhere beautiful, to a beach or a hilltop with a view of the sunrise that would make it even more special.  You could even bring a breakfast picnic to enjoy when it gets light, or a flask of hot coffee and a blanket to keep warm.

The same goes for sunset.  It’s a chance to look back on what might have been your first full day together as a married couple and chat about what you loved about the day or even how you might improve it – there will be a new day tomorrow to try again after all!

Simply taking time to enjoy the simple things together will help cement your relationship, and will surely be the start of a long and happy marriage.

Have a Breakfast in Bed

Love goes through the stomach and to enjoy it in the morning while still in bed with your spouse is the best way to start the day. Having a big nutritious brunch also prepares you for the adventures of the day ahead and saves time – you won’t need to plan for lunch!

Many honeymoon and destination wedding hotels offer such service and you should try it at least once. Plus, on a honeymoon, you’re not the one to clean the bed off crumbs after!

During my wedding and honeymoon in Mauritius, we received a rich breakfast like that – we could choose between the bed and our large balcony.

Plan A Honeymoon Photoshoot

One of the best things to do on a honeymoon is to plan and do a photoshoot together.

It is very romantic to capture your trip such that you can look back at it later.

For example, when you do a honeymoon in LA, there are many Instagrammable places that are perfect for a romantic photoshoot.

Besides that, the activity of the photoshoot itself is fun as well, as you get to pose with your partner.

For this, you could hire a photographer to make the whole experience more convenient and much more relaxing. Also, a photographer can make sure that every photo looks perfect.

Spend Time Under the Stars

One of the best things to do on a honeymoon is to spend time under the stars. Whether you enjoy setting out camp chairs and looking up at the stars or sleeping in a glass house with the Milky Way overhead, spending time enjoying the stars is one of the best things that newlyweds can do on their honeymoon.

There are a couple of different ways to make this happen. You could book a nice, luxurious stay at a glass house like Skyscape in New Zealand or the glass bubbles in Finland. By doing this, you will be able to stay warm and cozy while experiencing the beauty of the galaxy with your partner.

Another way to do this would be to book a honeymoon in a less-populated area and go sit outside. The bigger a city is, the more light pollution it has which affects your ability to see the stars so you will want to aim for more-remote areas. Bring a blanket, some chairs, and hot chocolate and spend time cuddling under the stars with your new spouse.

Walk on the beach

One of the most romantic things to do on your honeymoon is to stroll, hand-in-hand, on soft sand, whether you’re on the beaches of Oahu or the dramatic black sands of Iceland. You can watch the waves (and if it’s warm, even jump in!) and keep an eye out for cute wildlife swimming through the water.

To really up the romantic vibes, try to time your stroll with sunset- beaches always look the most magical in the soft, golden light and with the sun sinking beneath the horizon. With nothing but the sound of the crashing of the waves and your brand new spouse, you can talk about your dreams for the future together and take in the spectacular beauty of the ocean.

Go For A Helicopter Ride

One of the cool and maybe surprise honeymoon experiences you can do is to take a helicopter ride and see things from a high vantage point.

Many honeymoon destinations offer helicopter ride experiences and when you include this into your honeymoon adventure, this really takes it up a notch especially if it is a surprise adventure.

Helicopter with view

The thing about this kind of experience is that you want to mention that it is a honeymoon experience so you may get a free upgrade to front row seats without having to pay for the premium seats so do keep that in mind or maybe, they will include some extra spiff, video or even a champagne toast for this experience.

Plan this honeymoon experience way in advance so you can plan anything additional to the experience to heighten the entire experience, maybe some professional photographs, a picnic experience, or even a fun limo ride to the airport to start off your helicopter tour in a luxury and fun experience from start to end.

Do Something Adventurous

If you are looking for something to do on your honeymoon that is fun and exciting, do something adventurous, like go ziplining or parasailing.

There is nothing like spending the day with the person you love and going on an adventure surrounded by beautiful scenery.

Zipline through the tree canopy or in front of waterfalls, and feel the thrill, especially if there are double ziplines so you can go at the same time as your partner. Parasail anywhere where there is water and a scenic view.

Nothing beats the peaceful feeling you have while being over 100ft in the air parasailing together with an epic view. Being together and having fun is what a honeymoon is all about. Doing something adventurous on your honeymoon will help make your special vacation unforgettable. Enjoy!

Plan For A Romantic Dinner

There’s something special about having a romantic dinner out at a nice restaurant on your honeymoon. It’s a great way to celebrate your new marriage and spend some quality time together, all while enjoying a delicious meal.

Before your honeymoon, do some research on great restaurants in the area. Pick one that serves cuisine both you and your partner enjoy, as well as one with a romantic or unique ambiance. This is a great pre-honeymoon activity to do together in order to get you excited for your big trip!

Once you’ve made your choice, be sure to make a reservation so that there’s no worry about missing out on the restaurant you pick. While making the reservation, don’t forget to tell the restaurant that you’ll be celebrating during your honeymoon. In many cases, restaurants will find ways to celebrate along with you, such as by offering complimentary drinks or dessert or by preparing a candlelit table.

While out for your celebratory meal, enjoy dinner and drinks while reminiscing on your wedding day and making plans for your life ahead. Don’t forget to treat yourself to a decadent dessert!

Go For a Scenic Drive

A super romantic thing to do on your honeymoon is to take a scenic drive.  This could be part of a scenic road trip or a shorter drive as part of a more contained getaway.  Create the perfect playlist with all your favorite tunes, buy some snacks, and head on out.  Along the way, find a perfect spot to stop and soak in the views over a romantic picnic lunch.

scenic drive

There are plenty of incredible scenic drives in America to choose from.  If you like the desert, the Badlands Loop or the drive-through Canyonlands has an incredible beauty of their own.  \For forest views, the General’s Highway, which connects Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks, is truly epic.  The Skyline Drive through Shenandoah and its continuation along the Blue Ridge Parkway also makes an incredibly romantic trip.

For ocean scenery, the Acadia Park Loop Road in Maine or Highway 1 along the Pacific Coast in California is hard to beat.

No matter what the scenery, a scenic drive together is a perfect way to spend your honeymoon!

Go Chasing waterfalls

Adventurous couples will love the sense of discovery that comes with chasing waterfalls. Take in the beautiful tropical scenery as you follow a meandering path through dense forest, crossing streams and hopping over rocks.

Honeymoon in Sri Lanka

Your heart will pound with excitement when you start to hear the sound of rushing water rushing. And then there it is, hidden behind the foliage, a waterfall more majestic than you had imagined. This intimate setting forms the perfect decor for a moment of romance.

Make the most of your adventure by enjoying a picnic or even taking a dip. Make it clothing optional if you happen to have the place all to yourselves.

Grab a Drink Together

Heading out to a super cool bar and sharing a few craft cocktails is always an exciting date night idea while enjoying your honeymoon! Find a special rooftop bar in a mountain town, a local craft brewery, or a cliffside bar overlooking the ocean.

Even a dive bar with seats shaped like saddles can be super fun. The location doesn’t matter as long as the two of you are enjoying the unique atmosphere and each other’s undivided attention!

Go On A Tour With A Local

We all know that being on honeymoon is all about you and your spouse. You want to spend as much time together as possible while still exploring the beautiful setting you find yourself in. However, it would also be a pity to leave your exotic destination without getting a feel for the local culture.

That’s why a tour with a local guide is a great idea! Instead of going on a group tour as you might do on a regular holiday, keep the experience intimate by going on a private tour instead – as we did in Viñales, Cuba.

Go Hiking

Is there any better place to relax and connect with your loved one, than in nature? And what better way to enjoy it than by taking a hike. Often the most beautiful and secluded scenes can be found on foot, and it’s the ideal way to discover your chosen honeymoon destination.

Whether you’re traveling to France to hike the stunning Calanques, taking a walking tour of the Dolomites in Italy, or perhaps even visiting one of the National Parks closer to home, you’ll find this romantic activity ticks all the right boxes for a loved-up respite from the real world. Pack a picnic, don your hiking shoes, and hit the trails!

Go Snorkeling

If you want to add a splash of adventure to your honeymoon but don’t want to go over the top, then why not go snorkeling together?

If you are close to the beach, which most honeymoon destinations are, then pack a snorkel and spend some of your time exploring the open water.

There are many wonderful places to snorkel in Europe and across the world so you might be surprised at what you find.

Another option is to take a boat tour which includes snorkeling stops. This way you’ll get your equipment provided and have the benefit of seeing more of the ocean than swimming close to the shore.

Discovering Sealife, coral, rock formations and even sea caves make snorkeling a wonderful activity for couples.

Relax In Your Hot Tub

There’s no better way to relax after your wedding than by soaking in a hot tub with your sweetheart. A jetted tub in a gorgeous natural area is the perfect setting for romance. Just bring along strawberries, quality chocolate, and champagne – and you’re all set!

For best results, find a hot tub with a great view of the stars at night. The night sky is the perfect backdrop to a romantic evening for newlyweds.

Be sure to find a private tub for your honeymoon as you won’t want to share this event with anyone else – especially should you opt for a clothing-optional experience!

A Photo Scavenger Hunt

If you’re searching for a unique honeymoon activity, try going on a photo scavenger hunt! It’s a fun and inexpensive way to get to know a new destination.

taking photo on iphone while traveling

To start, brainstorm a simple checklist of items you hope to photograph during your trip, and then store it on your phone for easy access while you’re out and about.

Here are a few things to include on a honeymoon scavenger hunt:

  • A snuggly shot of breakfast in bed at the hotel or B&B
  • The two of you stealing a kiss in a romantic spot
  • A selfie by a mural that best represents the destination
  • A picture of your future dream house in the city you’re visiting
  • Capture your favorite sunset
  • Photograph yourselves holding a souvenir that best represents the trip
  • Take a shot of your favorite meal or dessert

By the time you return home, you’ll have a collection of unique photos for your honeymoon photo album!

Enjoy a Dinner Cruise

If you’re looking to combine romance, fine dining, and romance, an evening harbor cruise could be just the honeymoon activity you’re looking for.

Setting sail before sunset, you’ll have the opportunity to see the city of your choice both by daylight and nightfall.  After all, nothing is more romantic than sailing past our best cities when they’re lit up and twinkling away at night.

Whilst on board, you’ll also be served a delicious multi-course meal and have access to a well-stocked bar. Moreover, many dinner cruises also invite live singers and piano players onboard to perform, adding to the romantic ambiance.

We have sailed on dinner cruises in a number of different locations and though each experience has been unique, they have all been incredibly worthwhile.  We suggest you book a sailing when planning your honeymoon too.

Read a Romantic Book Together

Reading a romantic book with your partner is one of the most relaxing things to do on a honeymoon. The best part is that you can do this activity almost anywhere at your hotel. You can bring a book with you down to the ocean and read it together while laying on a beach towel, enjoying the salty breeze in your hair. If you just want to stay inside your hotel room, however, you can also read while snuggled up in bed with the blankets and pillows. You can even make a blanket fort if you’re feeling extra silly and playful.

Audiobooks also make great entertainment if you’d rather listen to a story than have to read it aloud yourselves. The most important part is choosing a story that sounds appealing to both of you. Maybe that will be an exciting fantasy romance, or maybe it will be an adventure story with just a sprinkling of romance. Regardless of whatever type you decide upon, the romantic plot will help keep romance in the air during your honeymoon, will encourage intimacy between the two of you, and will even give you something to do at times when you may be feeling too tired or lazy to leave your hotel room.
