Viking Cruises Dress Code

When traveling on any type of vacation, you’ll need to know what to pack for your trip. The clothes you take will depend on a few factors, including the weather, destination, cultural restrictions (such as modest clothing in religious destinations), or even what activities you’re going to be partaking in.

One other thing you’ll need to take into consideration when packing clothing for a cruise is the dress code!

If you’re traveling on a Viking cruise, then you can relax a little. Their dress code is fairly relaxed and simple to understand, no matter where you’re traveling to. Read on to learn all about the dress code for Viking cruises.

Viking Cruises Dress Code: During the Day

During the day, the Viking cruises dress code is fairly casual. If the season or area of travel is warm, feel free to wear comfortable shorts, skirts, slacks, or jeans.

Be sure to pack for the onboard facilities too! You’ll want to bring swimwear, cover-ups, and exercise attire to make use of the onboard pool and fitness areas. This type of clothing should be reserved for these facilities though, and not worn in other areas of the ship. You could very well be denied entry to the restaurants for lunch if you turn up straight after a yoga session without first getting changed!

Viking Cruises Dress Code: Evening Attire

Unlike many cruise lines, Viking doesn’t have any “formal nights” as part of their itineraries. Instead, the Viking cruise dress code remains the same throughout the cruise across all dining venues, performances, and special events.

For evening wear, the dress code is simply ”‘elegant casual.” Think dresses, skirts, or slacks with a sweater or blouse for women, and for men, think trousers and a collared shirt. Ties and jackets are optional, but remember that shorts, jeans, and casual wear are not permitted.

If you’ve had a busy day and are still in casual clothing after 6:00 p.m. then worry not! You’ll still be allowed to enter World Café, where the dress code remains casual at all hours.

Viking Cruises Dress Code: When on Land

While there isn’t a specific Viking cruises dress code for land excursions, we do have some suggestions.

Viking offers a variety of fun and interesting tours to choose from when it comes to onshore activities. Plenty of these involve a lot of walking, as you’ll be exploring the various destinations by foot.

To ensure that you’re fully prepared for this, you’ll want to bring along a pair of comfortable walking shoes. Think trainers or well-fitting sandals made for long-distance walking, depending on your destination.

You’ll also want to take a good look at the itinerary before you depart. Some shore excursions include visits to religious sites, where you will be required to dress modestly. In order to avoid the disappointment of being denied entry, it’s recommended that men wear long pants and refrain from wearing sleeveless shirts.

Women should wear clothing that covers the knees (long skirts or trousers), and ensure that tops are not sleeveless or too revealing. It’s always a good idea to have a scarf or light jacket with you to cover up quickly if need be.

Hopefully, now you’ll have a good idea of what to pack for your trip onboard a Viking cruise. Be sure to ask your travel agent if you have any further questions, or reach out to us in the comments section!
