When to Go to Jamaica for your Honeymoon

The best time to go for a Jamaica honeymoon is from November to mid-December. The weather stays between the mid-70s to high 80s all year long, so it is nice even in winter. Hotel and flight deals are easiest to find during this time.

While resort deals may be cheaper during the summer months, it’s hurricane season so that can be risky. January to March are peak travel seasons for the island, making room rates way more expensive.

Best areas for your Jamaica Honeymoon

No matter which part of Jamaica you choose to visit, you are sure to have an amazing time on your honeymoon. You can fly into whichever one of Jamaica’s three international airports (Montego Bay, Kingston, or Ocho Rios) is closest to your resort.

What part of Jamaica is best for honeymoons? Some of the best areas in Jamaica for honeymoons are Montego Bay, Ocho Rios, Runaway Bay, and Negril. You will find lots of choices for Jamaica honeymoon all-inclusive resorts in these areas.

Montego Bay

Located on the north shore of Jamaica, Montego Bay (or “MoBay,” as locals call it) is one of the top romantic trip and honeymoon destinations in Jamaica for multiple reasons. There’s plenty to do, it’s easy to get to, and the beaches are spectacular.

Montego Bay is a major resort town with plenty of Jamaica all-inclusive honeymoon resorts to choose from. This city is home to the famous “Hip Strip,” where you will find plenty of nightlife, restaurants, and shopping.

Montego Bay is also home to some of the most popular tourist attractions in Jamaica. From watersports and rainforest excursions to historic and cultural sites to lively markets and exciting nightlife, there’s something for everyone in Montego Bay.

Ocho Rios

Ocho Rios is also located on the north shore of Jamaica. It is known for its waterfalls, and Dunn’s River Falls is one of the best attractions to visit (see Things to do on your Jamaica honeymoon, above, for more info).

Ocho Rios is one of the more popular areas in Jamaica, with tons of amazing beaches, watersports, and dining options. This area offers many different activities such as waterfall tours, hikes, river tubing, and ziplining, among others. It also has good nightlife. You can easily find great all-inclusive resorts for your Jamaica honeymoon here.

Runaway Bay

Runaway Bay is a beachfront area located about one hour from Montego Bay and about 30 minutes from Ocho Rios. This makes it conveniently located close to many attractions but in a quieter area.

This bay is one of Jamaica’s best snorkeling sites, with a thriving coral reef and a variety of marine life including stingrays, sea urchins, and parrotfish. The beaches are fabulous as well.

Negril

Negril is best known for its spectacular beaches and laid-back feel. Having started as a fishing village, Negril is a relaxed, beach-oriented town. Jamaica’s legendary Seven Mile Beach is in Negril, as are several other top beaches. Many of the restaurants and bars in Negril make the most of this by being located on the water.

If you’re coming to Jamaica for the beaches or water sports—or if you’re looking for a peaceful, romantic hideaway—Negril is one of the best Jamaica honeymoon spots.

Hang out on a gorgeous beach

Jamaica is full of beautiful white sand beaches. Here are 5 amazing beaches worth visiting during your honeymoon.

  • Blue Hole Bay, St. Ann – The calm waters of Blue Hole Bay keep it one of Jamaica’s safest swimming beaches. This wide stretch also makes it easy to wade through the waves. The beach is part of Cornwall Beach, which is located in Maya Cove on the north coast of the island. It is a popular beach for kite surfing and snorkeling, as there are many interesting rock formations nearby.
  • Doctor’s Cave Beach, St. Ann – Located in Montego Bay, this popular beach is named after a natural spring that was said to have healing properties. The beach is perfect for sunbathing and the water is calm and shallow. Inland from the beach, you will find Doctor’s Cave Beach Club, which provides snorkeling equipment, lockers, and showers.
  • Meads Bay, St. Catherine – This beautiful bay is surrounded by lush green hills on one side and the aquamarine Caribbean Sea on the other. It is one of Jamaica’s most secluded beaches. It has recently become popular with international travelers who are drawn to its impressive views and pristine sands. You will find that there are no resorts or hotels in close proximity, making it an ideal spot for a quiet getaway.
  • Frenchman’s Cove – This beach is located in Montego Bay and is one of Jamaica’s most popular beaches. It has powder-like white sand that slopes into the aquamarine waters below. The atmosphere makes you feel like you are in your own private paradise; it is one of the few completely private beaches in Jamaica. You can find nearby restaurants and places to swim in the water if you are not content with basking in the sun.
  • Lucea Beach, Hanover – This long stretch of beach is quite popular with locals who come to bask in its famed beauty. The sands are soft and pale, while the waters are calm. The location is close to Black River, which is known for its wildlife tours of crocodiles and manatees. There are also several great golf courses in the area including Rose Hill Golf Club, which offers magnificent views of Lucea Beach.

Take Sunrise or Sunset Walks on the Beach

There is nothing more romantic than spending a beautiful morning walking along the beach in Jamaica or going for a stroll at the end of an amazing day and admiring the changing color of the sky. This is a great reason to stay at a beachfront honeymoon resort, so you can easily get to the beach at any time.

Enjoy a Romantic Dinner Together

Sugar Mill

Many say that the Sugar Mill is Jamaica’s best restaurant. Located at Half Moon Resort in Montego Bay, the Sugar Mill pays homage to the resort’s history as a sugar plantation. Set high on a hill, it offers gourmet Jamaican cuisine in an intimate, elegant setting with indoor and open-air seating.

Go Snorkeling

Go snorkeling together to experience the wonders of the ocean and see tropical fish, coral reefs, and other amazing aquatic life. The Montego Bay Marine Park is a perfect place to go, or you can go on a snorkeling tour. At some Jamaica honeymoon resorts you can snorkel from the beach.

Check out the Views from Lover’s Leap Lighthouse

As the story goes, this is the location where star-crossed lovers who, rather than be taken from each other by a jealous plantation owner, chose instead to run away together. They raced to the edge of this cliff and the moon caught them in a golden net, setting them slowly below.

At 1700 feet above sea level, this is the highest lighthouse in the Western Hemisphere.

Enjoy a Couple’s Massage

A couple’s massage is a romantic activity that will rejuvenate you and give you time to relax together. Most Jamaica honeymoon resorts have a spa onsite, but if not the concierge should be able to direct you to a vetted massage therapist during your trip.

Is it safe to go to Jamaica for your Honeymoon?

Jamaica, despite being one of the most popular honeymoon and travel destinations in the world, also has one of the world’s highest crime and homicide rates. Yes, that’s a red flag. Is it safe? Travelers claim that while the statistics aren’t favorable, millions of newlyweds have unforgettable honeymoons here.

If you stick to luxury resorts and stay in crowded parts of town that are deemed safe, you should be fine. Be warned though, there are regular reports of thefts. Keep an eye on your bag and personal items while you’re out and about, and don’t carry a lot of cash or valuable items.

Be sure to leave your passport and travel documents in a safe place in your room—and for extra security, make copies of those and your driver’s licenses and put those in a separate place just in case. For more information on traveling to Jamaica safely, check out our article “Is Jamaica Safe as a Travel Destination?”.

How much does a Jamaica honeymoon cost?

Is Jamaica expensive for a honeymoon? No, Jamaica is not expensive for honeymoons. As with any destination, you can certainly spend a lot here if you want to stay at an uber-luxurious resort and do all the activities. But you can also find plenty of nice Jamaica honeymoon resorts that offer an affordable Jamaica honeymoon package.

When looking at a Jamaica honeymoon cost, it really depends on you and your preferences. For under $200 a night, your accommodations will be basic and usually do not come with access to a white sand beach. You can find some 3-star hotels on the beach for this price, but most do not have good reviews.

You will find most Jamaica honeymoon resorts in a price range between $300-$500 a night, including all-inclusive resorts. Luxurious honeymoon rooms like the overwater bungalows at Sandals’ all-inclusive honeymoon resorts in Jamaica are around $1000/night and up.

As you can see, your Jamaica honeymoon cost can vary greatly, but in general, for a 5-night honeymoon, we recommend around $3,500 plus airfare.

Jamaica is a honeymooners paradise! There are plenty of amazing beaches, great food, and luxurious resorts all waiting to make your honeymoon one to remember. It’s just time to start planning!
