Honeymoon in Spectacular St. Lucia

Thinking about a honeymoon in St. Lucia? Many newlyweds are! Nestled between the South Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean, St. Lucia is often referred to as “little Hawaii”. This picturesque island is home to mountain views, relaxing beaches and a plethora of on island activities that showcase its natural beauty and keep travelers entertained. If you’re honeymooning on the island, it is helpful to think and plan ahead. Here are a few things to consider when planning your St. Lucia honeymoon.

Honeymoon Travel Tips

While St. Lucia is currently a sovereign country, it used to be a British Colony, which means that islanders drive on the left side of the road. Depending on where you stay on the island, the famous Piton Mountains that most travelers suggest you visit can be a bit of a drive. So, if you’re renting a car, be prepared to drive a stick shift on the left side of the road to reach your destination.

Currency: Although the US dollar is typically accepted throughout the island, the native St. Lucia currency is the Eastern Caribbean Dollar. The Eastern Caribbean Dollar has an exchange rate of 1 US dollar to 2.65 East Caribbean Dollars. If you do want to exchange American money for East Caribbean currency, hotels on the island run a reasonable exchange rate.

Although it is easy to pay US dollars when traveling in St. Lucia, some travelers report that prices can be higher if you’re paying in US dollars so switching out money before, or at the beginning of your trip may be an easy way to save some cash.

Best time to visit:

Much like most of the Caribbean Islands, St. Lucia’s two primary seasons are wet and dry. Rainy season is from June to November and while a rainstorm in the mountains and jungle sounds beautiful in theory, the weather may get in the way of some much-needed beach relaxation and hiking after the stress of a wedding. Dry season is from December to June.

Most people suggest visiting St. Lucia between April and June because this time of year is a great time to book flights and hotels, plus the island is only moderately crowded.  The hottest St. Lucia months are from May to September and when it is most rainy, while April and May are the best times for swimming with temperatures that average around 83 degrees.
